Organizational structure
of the Rockwood Karate Dojo - July
2007
We are a Shotokan Karate Dojo, and are members
of the original, world re-knowned JKA (Japan Karate Association)
through the CJKF (Canadian Japan Karate Federation) in Ottawa
(please see ottawajka.com
for more details).
All Rockwood Karate classes are instructed by
a JKA-recognized dan (black belt) level Karate-ka.
The leading Sensei (Donna Haskett, 3 rd Dan JKA)
in Rockwood has roots with the ISKF (International Shotokan Karate
Federation) from the mid 1980’s up to the late 90’s,
a time when the ISKF held a strong bond with the JKA. It is important
to note however that as of June 11, 2007, the ISKF and JKA have
parted ways, and are no longer affiliated or connected by any
means. What does this mean to those involved? There are numerous
ISKF Dojos who have trained for many, many years in the JKA system
of Karate. They have a choice to make; follow the leadership of
the ISKF or the JKA. This choice must be made by the 31 st of
December, 2007. After such time, ISKF students and instructors
and their qualifications will no longer be recognized by the JKA.

Does this affect the Rockwood Karate Dojo? Not really.
Our position is clear. We are solely JKA members. The purpose of
this information is simply for clarity to anyone interested in our
organizational structure.
Though
the community of Rockwood is small, the town is rapidly expanding.
The Dojo is growing steadily and has recently added extra classes
to the schedule.
